Protect your home while on vacation!
Are you going on vacation? Protect your home. It is just as important as protecting the items you bring with you. Make sure to take the necessary steps to be relaxed while you’re away!
Home security system
Home security is absolutely essential.
You can install an outdoor sensor light, timers on your electronics or advertise your security system (even if you have no security system)!
Lock up valuables in a safe
When you go away, it’s best to put all your jewels, cash and other valuables into your safe. Just in case your home is broken to, the burglars won’t get to your truly valuable stuff.
Do you regularly leave the blinds open in your home during the day?
Perfect! Don’t close them when you’re going on holiday.
It may seem strange, but if you close your blinds, it’s also an obvious giveaway to burglars that something is outside the normal routine.
Lock Everything and disconnect your garage door
It’s common sense, but be sure to lock every single possible entry to your home.
Before you leave, go through the house and lock every window and every door.
Also, be careful of your garage door openers! Sometimes they can be opened by universal remotes. Disengage your garage door opener and opt for a manual lock.
Your GPS can lead burglars directly to your home
When you leave your car at the airport or in your hotel parking, a burglar can break in, turn on the GPS unit and often find out exactly where home is.
If you have a portable unit, don’t leave it in the car. If you have a built-in unit, set “home” for something other than your actual exact address (a cafe, pub,..).
Keep a low profile on social media
Nowadays, we instantly share our holiday on the internet.
What is the problem? It’s broadcast to the world that you aren’t home and your stuff is ripe for the taking.
Pay attention on what you’re posting and when you’re posting!
Just wait until you come back home from your journey.
A vacation checklist would help to keep the house in tip-top shape while you’re away and to have a security section.
Go through the list of action steps described above: what are the relevant ones to your home and situation? Add them to your list so you never forget them again.
Your house and belongings will be safe and sound!!
Ask Someone to Keep an Eye on Things
Have you got a good neighbour, a friend or a family member who can keep an eye on things? That’s the best way to protect your home. They can just stop by your house sometimes during the week or they can actually stay at your home to care for and keep an eye on it.
Purchasing tenant insurance
If you’d like to rest easier without bringing with you all your valuables, you should get tenant insurance. It covers all your belongings and gives you liability and legal coverage.
